Apply for Community Development Fund: Who? What? When? Where? How?

Dear Galiano Island,

There are three components of sustainable island community that deserve special focus:

Employment, Housing and Culture.

When facilitating the ease of transition for individuals moving to the island, people could use help with finding employment, finding quality housing and becoming connected to our vibrant culture (the film school and media community, the boating scene, growing quality food, soccer, music, hockey, the fitness centre, the activity centre, gatherings in the parks, nature trails and hiking, the new annual picnic, etc. etc.)

Do you have a project that addresses employment, housing and/or culture? Is your project in a good position to win a $1000 grant and run with it in a way that can produce near-term tangible results for the community? Can you take that $1000 and make the transition to Galiano easier for wage-earning families? Or do you have a festival venue that will attract significant "off-season" commerce to the island? Do you have a solution for finding quality housing for the kind of people that we need, who continue to find it hard to find a suitable place?

The DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO SEPT. 15th

When the Active Galiano Community Development Fund reaches $1000, we'll start a vote among account holders and the money will go toward the project that gets the most votes.

Special thanks goes out to Daniel at the corner store for handing me $100 in cash to seed the fund upon hearing me describe the idea. You'll now see his logo all over the website as an example of the kind of exposure we can give our sponsors. As additional incentive, the first 10 sponsors (er, make that 9, thanks Daniel) that get me $100 real dollars (i.e. you do the work, not me) will get a whole year's worth of sponsorship status. (After that it might be 6-monthly).
