BCSEA our provincial sustainable energy association

Galiano Island,

I just listened to a great seminar put on by the BC Sustainable Energy Association about non-Oil based Transportation. The link to the recording of that seminar is here: http://vimeo.com/37205696

One interesting part of their organization is to form Chapters. I was thinking that we could form a Chapter on Galiano, but then it occurred to me that we really should form such a chapter for the whole of the gulf islands because our local community is one that really ought to be tackling inter-island transport head on, just as the folks at http://islandfutures.ca are doing.

If you would also like an Ad to appear there, you need only submit payment to the poll winner... the Galiano Health Care Clinic.

Cheques for $75 per ad can be dropped off during office hours to the front desk attention Linda Ruedrich

Be Subversive. Pay Off All Your Debts.

Have you ever had one of those moments where suddenly something very profound makes tremendous sense?

Tonight, I had one of those moments after Victor Anthony pointed out a specific video in a list of links at the bottom of a recent blog post. It's a little heavy on the conspiracy theory side of things, but setting that aside, is otherwise VERY educational.

At the second instalment of the Community Collaboration series of meetings, I gave a presentation on outlining a vision for more efficient community publishing and communication.

What were your impressions of tonight's meeting?

Hi Community Collaboration Folks,

What were your impressions of tonight's meeting? I'm personally really stoked by what I saw going on there as it fit so directly with what I've been hoping Active Galiano can help facilitate.

Throughout the process of building Active Galiano, I've been thinking of which organization I might eventually be able to give it to. I think that tonight I saw a glimmer of who really should own the website, and it's the same set of people who I designed to own it in the first place. Everyone.

Why Twitter is the right social network for the Galiano Island Community

Like the rest of those of you who are plugged in to the internet a fair bit these days, I've been reflecting on the twists and turns of all of our online media options.

Google+ ? Facebook ? Twitter ? Active Galiano ? [ no really, it's an option ;-) ]

There's a brand war going on and "what we're saying to each other" is the battlefield.

I'm writing this as a brief opinion on why Twitter (seriously? yeah, seriously) really is the network of choice for Galiano Island residents.

B.C. Sailing Teaches Our School Kids How To Sail

Another school year is over, but this year the Galiano Community School kids were treated to something extra special. B.C. Sailing brought their Mobile Optimist Sailing School over, which included 8 sailboats, 4 kayaks, a motorized coach boat, 2 highly skilled and qualified instructors and a BOAT LOAD of enthusiasm for the kids!

Our gratitude goes out to Martine and Madelyn for the great show they put on, and to Daniel at BC Sailing's main office for making it all happen.

How to Share Galiano Stuff on Facebook

Here's the best way to share a Galiano related activity on Facebook, if you want to make sure people always have the most up to date information and you want to make sure that your announcements don't get stuck in your set of Facebook friends only.

1) Make sure the item is on Active Galiano. Many times the item is already up there, so this step is as easy as easy can be.

2) Click the little Facebook Add Icon at the bottom to share it on your Facebook page. Easy. (similar for Twitter).

That's it!

So why should you do it this way?
