Cindy Crawford runs The Barber Shop on Galiano. Plus: Whales and other Transients.

Dear Galiano Island,

Did you know that Cindy Crawford runs "The Barber Shop" on Galiano Island?

No, not THAT ( http://www.cindy.com ) Cindy Crawford. OUR ( http://activegaliano.org/barber-shop ) Cindy Crawford.

She moved to Galiano about a year ago, lives far up the North End and works out of the lower level of Manzanita Mall, next to the laundromat. Early returns are in and she's super friendly. :-) I'd have tried her services myself, except... well, have you seen my head lately? If you're in the area of the Mall on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday, I recommend dropping in, saying hi, and tell her Active Galiano sent ya.

So, besides that little discovery, I think this week's big news story for the island is Saturday's Nettlefest and Sunday's Agriculture Conference hosted by the food program. They're up over 80 attendees now, with people coming from all over our wider region, with similar kinds of food and growing challenges as us. One issue I know they're having is finding enough homes willing to billet visitors. If you've got space in your home for a Foodie Visitor, drop them a line, perhaps using the contact form on their website: http://galianofoodprogram.ca

A couple notes on Whales:

the calendar for this week ( http://activegaliano.org/calendar-galiano-island-events/2010-W12 ) informs me that there's a presentation of Wild Whales TONIGHT at the conservancy. (Thanks for posting that Keith!)

and... if you followed Galiano's Twitterers, then perhaps this morning you saw this alert from Jessie up at Bodega.

Did anyone get any photos?

cheers everyone and Thanks for Posting!
