Galiano Emergency Program

Volunteers Needed:
Yes

Galiano's Emergency Program, part of the Southern Gulf Islands Emergency Program, has two main components: Emergency Support Services and the Neighbourhood Program. Emergency Support Services provides 72 hours of support for people who must evacuate their homes in the event or a natural or man-made disaster such as an earthquake or oil spill, and also provides refreshment support for emergency personnel such as our volunteer fire departments if they have to remain at an incident for more than 4 hours. The Neighbourhood Program uses telephone trees to try to contact all island residents and visitors in emergency situations to check on their welfare and update them about developments. We provide free training and are always looking for people from all parts of Galiano who would like to be able to help their neighbours and community emergency team members efficiently in any kind of crisis. Every community in BC is legally required to have an emergency program and we all depend on your participation.
