We are looking for someone to sub-let one of our permanent spots for the next few months and another person to join us as our fourth permanent member. Also available: Rent a weekly block of six hours.
Price:
$160/month for three renters
$120/month for four renters
$60/month for a block of six hours every week
Includes:
Desk, high speed Internet, hydro, microwave, coffee and tea and access to a printer and a scanner (no phone)

Why Twitter is the right social network for the Galiano Island Community
Like the rest of those of you who are plugged in to the internet a fair bit these days, I've been reflecting on the twists and turns of all of our online media options.
Google+ ? Facebook ? Twitter ? Active Galiano ? [ no really, it's an option ;-) ]
There's a brand war going on and "what we're saying to each other" is the battlefield.
I'm writing this as a brief opinion on why Twitter (seriously? yeah, seriously) really is the network of choice for Galiano Island residents.

How to Share Galiano Stuff on Facebook
Here's the best way to share a Galiano related activity on Facebook, if you want to make sure people always have the most up to date information and you want to make sure that your announcements don't get stuck in your set of Facebook friends only.
1) Make sure the item is on Active Galiano. Many times the item is already up there, so this step is as easy as easy can be.
2) Click the little Facebook Add Icon at the bottom to share it on your Facebook page. Easy. (similar for Twitter).
That's it!

Basic computer skills class at the Activity Centre. Come find out the basics of operating a computer, Mac or PC. Basic computer skills of all kinds will be presented and explored, including - but not limited to - surfing the Internet, creating simple documents, organizing your files and software, sharing documents and photos through e-mail and social networks such as Facebook and Twitter as well as topics requested by participants.
A Rising Tide on Galiano Island
Dear Galiano Island Geeks,
Without giving away the y-axis, which might be against Google's terms of service for its analytics tools, I'm attaching a little proof of the usefulness of Active Galiano going forward.
The image is of our "unique visitor" counts, and for the statisticians among you there is no suppressed zero on the y-axis. It's as it appears.
If you thought Active Galiano was useful connecting with people a year ago, we are being visited by almost 4 times the number of people these days.

Just wanted to thank everyone who came to the Drop-in Basic Computer Skills classes this November. We all had an amazing and energizing time each evening with all that teaching and sharing and building going on. It was a great success and helped so much towards keeping our IT Hub at IslandStyle Studios alive and active.
Thanks especially to Christian and Stephen for co-hosting the effort...Stephen in particular for having the idea and volunteering his time and skills - you guys are just too cool to be true geeks sometimes. :D

A 'Marriage" Proposition for ActiveGaliano.org!
Galiano IS our stunningly beautiful community….. a community is not just people but where those people choose to reside. In real terms the only way you can SEE that is through pictures….. activegaliano.org is devoid of pictures but has awesome content. The community is presently seen online visually at activegaliano.org as orange tabs set on a white background with token blue waves at the top….. I would suggest a little on the drab side.
The best websites I've used and enjoyed are a marriage between awesome visuals and great content!!

Basic Computer Skills Drop-in Classes: Tuesdays in November
Dear Galiano Island,
Here's a reminder to get your events into the Calendar. There's no limit of course, or deadline, but the calendar is getting lots of visits, so if your event isn't up (even though its planned already) people won't see it.
Four folks have paid for sponsorship status, and two more are on deck. That would mean, that we'd raised $600 for this iteration of the community fund, and when we've collected all that we can, 100% of it will go to the folks at Playgroup because they were the only applicant.

Will IslandStyle Survive past November 1?
Dear Galiano Island,
IslandStyle Studios has suddenly lost two of its valued members, and this has put the studio's survival on the line. Both leaving members have additional life plans to move onto, and Karen and I are wishing Yokon and Ella all the best as they move on and out to other pastures and endeavors.
Over the summer, IslandStyle ended up acting in some ways as the island's concierge office. Folks would drop in there looking for fast access to the internet to solve their
digital problems.
