Hints of Evening Light in the Sky. So begins February.

Dear Galiano Island,

I'm happy to report that the Activity Centre Society & Fitness Centre will be using our Calendar from now on. This is a big win. The Activity Centre is host to far more things than you might be aware of, and it's a group that I hope you'll connect with out in the real world. Stay tuned!

[ Some Events of Note ]

The Heritage Forest is coming alive. Ok, it's already alive, but the conservancy is kicking up maintenance efforts to open it up for low-impact recreation. And this coming Saturday is a TREE PLANTING party. I went last Saturday (because it was on the calendar), and it's a great way to get out and connect with the earth. And if you plant a tree, you can keep track of it down through the ages.

On the sporting front, I'm not sure what Patti meant by "Adult" in 'Adult Volleyball', but I'm sure they're having fun. Turns out they're lighting up the gym at the school on Wednesdays. Hey Patti... does this mean it's clothing optional?

http://activegaliano.org/adult-volleyball is a link to the upcoming event. Watch out for it in future weeks on the calendar.

January is nearly done, and thanks to our website users, we had 31 events posted in January.

But February is off to a strong start. The first week has entries on every day and the great part is that at least 7 different people posted events for that week! Here's the link to the detailed page, with HOURS down the right hand side:

I'd like to congratulate the Food Program on making it through its second year (they're having a feedback review) and also to highlight Karen's continuing "Beginner's Graphic Design and Photo Editing" course that she's teaching.

I've been going to that class, and I'm learning a lot there. (and this website is going to get a makeover because of it).

There's also a meeting for Dora Fitzgerald's healing plants and herbs collective. This is a budding organization whose time has come.

After you're finished helping organize the island's healthful future, there'll be the chance to work up a healthy appetite at the Belly Fit program the same day:

And once you've over-compensated for Belly Fit and eaten your way through your fridge, you'll want to learn some tips and tricks about composting. This event is hosted by Barry New and the Food Program.

[ Some Notes about the Website ]

Thanks to input from Stephen A., I've moved the content upload links to more 'context appropriate' places. Those of you who have accounts can check out the "Post Stuff" page to see what I mean. I'd also like to thank Nicole M. for inadvertently reminding me that the site really needed a search feature, so that's been added now too. It's surprisingly useful.

We had 250 unique visitors in January (so far), with visits from:
- Victoria
- Vancouver
- Sidney
- West Vancouver
- Salt Spring Island
- Ladner
- Calgary
- Port Alberni
- Kelowna

We also had visits from:
- the USA
- the UK
- Germany
- Japan
- Mexico
- China
- Phillippines

We've also moved up to page 3 on the google search page for "Galiano Island". :-)

And one last thing... I'm thinking of putting together a party for the real life launch of Active Galiano.

Why? Because I like partying. Stay tuned.

cheers!
