Library wants to know: anyone going to California this month?
Dec. 18 Update: Thanks to help from lots and lots and lots of people, we've got the books coming to Galiano via a waystation in Point Roberts. Many thanks to all the people (especially Christian Nally!!) who helped put out the word and who helped connect the dots!

Dear Islanders,
The Galiano Library has been offered a donation 150 art, photography, and other lovely books, thanks to Tom Hanks (a bit of a long story). The only catch is that they're in Los Angeles and, frankly, we can't really afford to have them shipped to our wee island. Is anyone out there driving to California (or more importantly -- *from* California) and willing to bring back a bunch of books?
Okay, we lied. There's one more catch: they have to be out of there within about 10 days. :-)
We can offer some compensation for gas and delicious baked goods for the trip or after. We can also pick up these books from either Vancouver or Victoria. We can also give you the Tom Hanks story.
If interested or even remotely possibly willing to help, please contact Chris Gaylor (2210).
Thank-you!
PS -- To clarify: Tom Hanks does not -- and we repeat: *does not* -- know we exist. If he did, we would be that twinkle in his eye and we would have a brand new library.
PPS -- Tom Hanks, for perhaps the first time in his life, is incidental to this story. He probably doesn't even know these books exist. Intrigued? Drive to California! :D
