Next up, the Conservancy's 20th Anniversary Celebration, which is actually three events. You just can't beat wine, cheese and vignettes. Never been to Retreat Island or on an ecosystem tour? Here's your chance! With dinner to follow at the Hall. (I'm not sure whether there are spots left for dinner, can't hurt to contact them as listed on the event listing, perhaps the listing will get updated with remaining spots.)

For those looking as much to the future as celebrating the past, the Ground Water Advisory and OCP Steering Committee have meetings as well.

With all that bounty, I'd like to mention something completely different. Yokon's video rental place in Manzanita (above the insurance office) has had a transformation occur and in my opinion it's a very significant one for the island. That shop is going to double as a shared office space for people who might otherwise only work out of their homes. It's becoming a co-working space, a place where a few members can focus on thriving in the new economy, and leave the grounded living to be done at home.

Most spots are currently spoken for, but nothing talks like cash in hand. We're all interested in seeing whether that space can be long term viable, and a wait-list is sure to follow, just as surely as there will be turn-over. Expect more news from that endeavor, but if well laid plans come together, you'll soon be introduced to how co-working space might thrive here on Galiano. We're finding that we have some advantages over even our lowermainland counterparts. Galiano may turn out to be the perfect place to do business of this sort. Stay tuned.
