Dear Galiano Island,

David Hickey is a crystal bowl and gongs musician. Some of his music can be sampled here:

The real scoop here is that this musician is on tour in our region and has neglected to include a stop on Galiano, but has included Mayne and Salt Spring.

If you're keen to attend we're thinking you have two options:

a) join the list of folks encouraging him to come to Galiano on Nov. 4th

or

b) attend one of the performances already scheduled elsewhere

So what does this have to do with Active Galiano?

Three things:

1) I'm testing out the "Signup" functionality. To be clear: this event hasn't actually been booked, but if we get 20 people to pay $20, then it can go forward. Someday ActiveGaliano.Org will have e-commerce and take credit cards, but for now we'll have to run with good faith commitments.

2) I think it's time to set up a Newsletter about Galiano's Music Scene. For now it'll just be something similar to my weekly mailout, and posts will be less frequent, but we'd like it to evolve and we'd love to have input from all musical interests on the island. There's talk of Galiano putting some effort into festivals, and a home grown music festival might be just the thing.

3) I've been looking into possibilities on getting increased boat traffic between Sturdies and Mayne, to relink economic and cultural ties between Galiano Island and Mayne Island. It seems like a natural fit that we've lost at our peril. Perhaps, even in this case, the natural thing would be for folks to get on some boats and get over on their own, meet some folks who live really really close to us but not exactly on our island.
