A new race for Galiano Island?

Hi Galiano Island Triathlon Enthusiasts,

You were originally signed up for this newsletter as part of the Galiano FUN Triathlon, an event which has since gone by the wayside.

In the meantime, I've been working on this website, slowly turning it into a community driven event calendar and classified ads posting system for Galiano Island. It's also a weekly e-mail about Galiano Island that you can subscribe to separately. The site itself will be a charity fundraising site, with money going to whatever Galiano Island development project would benefit the island the most.

But I'm writing to this group of addresses today because some interest has been expressed lately in bringing some sort of race to Galiano. [ Ok I admit it... it was just me, muttering to myself, while out on Trincomali in a kayak. It was wet and way too windy for being out there with no spray skirt, but the idea occurred nonetheless. ;-) ]

From my end, I'm very open to all sorts of possibilities. I'd like the event to be light on volunteers and driven mostly by the racers themselves. I'm open to the idea that it be a kayak race only.

I'm interested in the race actually being more ambitious in terms of distance and achievement, at the expense of being inclusive, but again, open to suggestions.
