Dear Galiano Island,
You must have truly turned the corner and realized that it's actually 2012 by now.
So, getting down to the business of growing Active Galiano and making it even more useful, I have a couple things to propose, but I'll need help.
Dear Galiano Island,
As we put the finishing touches on Fall, and gear up for the Winter dinner party season, a significant new feature has popped up on Active Galiano.
Brought to us by Steve Goldberg and Karen Ausrine, it's a page that makes it easier to give the gift of liquid assets to your favorite island organizations, and I'm not talking about Egg Nog.
Check it out here at http://activegaliano.org/donate
Dear Galiano Island,
Don't you just love surprises? This past iteration of the Active Galiano Community Grants Poll has certainly held some surprises for me.
Dear Galiano Island,
The votes are currently 13 to 9 in favor of the kids playground, but don't count the health care clinic out just yet. I'm thinking that this is a low voter turnout so far. Time will tell.
Without naming too many names, it's VERY interesting to me that of the 22 votes so far, only 2 come from men, and one of those was me. What's up men? Civic Duty Much?! ;-)
Check out the list (so far) of folks who have pledged toward the winner. They'll get top billing on the Active Galiano site for the next 6 months, through the all important spring planning season.
Dear Galiano Island,
The deadline for submissions for Community Development Projects has past.
We've received a few pledges of $75 towards Sponsorship Status, and 100% of that money will go directly from the pledges to the winner of our vote which is now open.
Some folks have expressed the idea that they feel guilty picking one project over another. Instead, I would encourage you to think about your personal priorities, and that eventually the other project will be funded later on. Even submitting an project to be voted on does provide some exposure and it gets people thinking.
Dear Galiano Island,
Calling all island projects seeking money. It's time for the next round of the Active Galiano Community Grant program.
Now that Active Galiano is getting over 1500 unique visitors, over 3300 visits, and over 15,000 page views each month, it's time for round two of the Community Grants program.
It's Active Galiano policy to give away 100% of the value it creates, and plough that value directly back into community development.
Dear Galiano Island,
A new feature has been added to the Active Galiano website. Now, your Events, Directory Entries and Blogs (a.k.a. Discussion Starters) have a field associated with them called "Volunteers Needed?".
If you choose the option indicating that your posting needs volunteers, then your posting will appear on the new Volunteer Opportunities page: http://activegaliano.org/volunteer-opportunities
That page lives under the slightly rearranged main navigation menu under the "Community" option.
Dear Galiano Island,
If you're interested in making money, watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MsZfq2SUcA from the old country.
Also, anyone with an interest in joining the soon-to-come-to-your-island Entrepreneur's Club, let me know by whatever means you enjoy.
OH... and also know that I'm interested in subletting my seat in the shared office in Manzanita 'til Christmas.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled internet.
cheers!
Christian

Galiano Boaters,
One of our expectant mothers has approached me looking for boats willing to put their names on a list to be called if she chooses to give birth on Salt Spring.
Her midwife has suggested that she at the very least prepare an option for getting to Salt Spring, just in case she changes her mind and decides to go to Salt Spring.
As you all know, the ferry schedule between Galiano and Salt Spring leaves a lot to be desired, and so she's looking for options, perhaps leaving from Montague or Retreat Cove, if transport can be arranged on the other side.
